BERLIN - Hansi Flick's future as Bayern Munich's head coach remains uncertain despite a 3-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur sealing a perfect record for the Bavarians in this season's UEFA Champions League group stage.

The club won all six games with a goal difference of 19, giving chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, president Herbert Hainer and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic good reason to place their trust in Niko Kovac's temporary successor.

So why have they announced that a final decision on Flick's position won't be made before December 21, when the first half of the national league is finished?

Bayern's senior player such as Manuel Neuer, Thomas Muller and Joshua Kimmich have all praised Flick's quality as interim head coach, calling him "highly communicative." Many players claim the 54-year-old has created a new team spirit, with everybody toeing the line.

"Europe is taking notice of us again," Neuer commented, mentioning "a positive trend under Flick."

The former German national team assiatant coach has managed to keep spirits high for stars such as Thiago Alcantara and Philippe Coutiho, both of whom lost their places in Bayern's starting 11 after Kovac's dismissal.

Bayern's performance is driven by a notable upswing regarding tactics, and a more attacking approach that is seeing dozens of promising chances being created every game.

Former German internationals Lothar Matthaus and Dietmar Hamann are convinced Batern will stick with Flick as head coach until at least summer.

"We have to see what happens with Thomas Tuchel at Paris Saint-Germain. I guess that might have some bearing on Bayern's decision," Matthaus noted, adding that Ajax coach Erik Ten Hag is also said to be on Bayern's list.

The former midfielder said he is convinced Flick is going to continue until the summer, "as it does not make sense to change in the winter break. On top of that, I don't see anyone around that can help Bayern or that is available."

Hamann stressed that the current Bayern coach is doing a brilliant job, and that the club must keep him until the summer. "But Bayern will have to decide in February or March at the latest because you need to plan the new season together with next season's coach."

Despite recent successes, Rummenigge intends to wait to make a decision, as the team needs to catch up after a below-par Bundesliga campaign thus far. The former striker is demanding nothing less than three wins from the last three league games of 2019, against Werder Bremen, SC Freiburg and VfL Wolfsburg.

While the club's focus is on success on the continental stage, the Bundesliga remains the decisive competition. Sitting seven points behind league leaders Borussia Monchengladbach is far short of expectations for the country's most decorated side.

After two narrow defeats against Bayer Leverkusen and Monchengladbach, Flick needs positive results to keep his job even until the summer, before the club even considers giving him the job on a more permanent basis.

But Rummenigge will take his time to decide, keeping an eye on the performances Flick can deliver with a squad that seems comfortable with him in charge coach.
